Wood is an all natural material and has been used for millennia in construction. From the ancient Chinese pagoda, Yingxian Wooden Tower, built in 1056 AD to the wooden winners’ podiums at the 2010 Canada Winter Olympics, wood has taken on an even more important role in our everyday life. Unfortunately, wood in its natural state “fears” water, and fungal attacks as well as dimensional instability are amongst the main water related wood problems. These, as well as other limiting characteristics of most wood species have restricted wood usage in many applications. Thanks to technological advances, the answer to our common wood problems has been discovered – Accoya® wood, the ultimate solution, is sourced from certified sustainable sources, and it features superior dimensional stability (than 97.7% stable), Class 1 durability (decay/fungal resistance, termite resistance, etc.), anti UV degradation (3 times better than Teak), non toxic, and is guaranteed for 50 years for above ground applications, and 25 years for in-ground as well as freshwater applications

Accoya® Wood Seminar on Gardening Applications was held at Shaks Pavilion, Shanghai on 11th June. The seminar was co-sponsored by Shanghai Landscape Architecture and Gardening Trade Association and Diamond Wood China Limited. LiLi, Divisional Head of Shanghai Landscape Administration Bureau, XuWeiXing, Vice Chairman of Shanghai Landscape Architecture and Gardening Trade Association, and many other distinguished guests attended the seminar. More than 50 designers from the Architecture Design Institute from all over Shanghai attended the event.

Lili introduced the use of ecological landscape materials in Shanghai Expo and landscape construction in the meeting; Derek Ting, Marketing Director of Diamond Wood, talked about wood as a main building material and the advantages of Accoya® wood. Minnie Zhu, Diamond Wood’s product manager, touched on some of Accoya® wood’s superior performance features and advantages including sustainably sourced raw material, Class I durability, superb dimensional stability, great UV resistance, non-toxic, 50 year guarantee for above ground applications. Zhou Jun, National Class I Registered Architect and the Vice GM of GN International, was also present to share his Accoya® wood experience. He is the chief designer for the Wison (Nanjing) Chemical Administration Building project.

Because of the mentioned great features, Accoya® wood was chosen as the main decking material for the Expo 2010 Shanghai piers which serves more than 100,000 boat passengers per pier on a daily basis, and thus one can also say Accoya® wood is connecting the world with Expo 2010 Shanghai.

After the seminar, the distinguished guests, architects and reporters toured Shaks pavilion and were very impressed with the Accoya® wood decking they were standing on. The exterior wall, 1st floor as well as roof terrace are all lined with Accoya® wood cladding and decking.
