Machinability
Processing of Accoya® Wood does not affect its unique properties (such as durability and dimensional stability) as the wood is modified throughout (the cross section) and is not leachable.
In general, Accoya® Wood is relatively easy to process and can be compared with profiling a soft wood species. No special tools are required for cross cutting, ripping, planing, routing and drilling. Sanding before finishing is rarely required. Thus, overall yield is superior.
Knots have same density as the surrounding wood, so cutting is easy and will not damage the saw blade.
Gluing
Accoya® Wood can be glued using most commonly used wood adhesive systems. Particularly good results are obtained with polyurethane (PU), emulsion polymer isocyanate (EPI), epoxy (EP) and phenol resorcinol formaldehyde (PRF) adhesives. The results of gluing with polyvinyl acetate (PVAC) can vary and gluing with melamine urea formaldehyde (MUF) is strongly discouraged.
Gluing Accoya® Wood for both load bearing and non-load bearing applications has been tested with a number of adhesive systems for laminating, finger jointing and frame corner joints. More information about these systems can be obtained by contacting us directly.
Finishing

Testing has been performed with opaque hybrid, opaque acrylic dispersion and transparent alkyd emulsions coating systems.
Most commonly used coating systems can be used on Accoya® Wood. Its high dimensional stability reduces coating tension during changing climates. Some leading coating manufacturers guarantee their products to last 2-3 times longer when used on Accoya® Wood. For more information please contact us directly.
