A mobile canteen made with Accoya® wood.

The experiment consists of modular tables made from Accoya which will be regularly moved to test different set-ups in the parks and public spaces of the European quarter. The project is being tested in “Parc du Cinquantenaire” and “Square de Meeûs” in Brussels in September and October 2014 and will return in the spring 2015.

European Canteen is a project of the non-profit association Equama, developed with Talking Things. It’s objective is to improve the quality of life in the public spaces of the European quarter. This is the first experiment to test new uses for these public space and to build more desirable neighbourhood with residents, users and urban planning actors.

Feedback on the experiment suggests that Accoya wood was a perfect choice because of its dimensional stability and durability as well as its sustainability benefits.
